Quran 39:9- "Are those who know equal to those who know not? It is only men of understanding who will take admonition (i.e. get a lesson from Allah's Verses)."
Understanding of the deen means understanding of the Qur'an, Hadith, the religious injunctions, and the Great Wisdom of Allah behind the rulings. Only those who truly understand the deen will follow it whole-heartedly and their heart will submit to Allah's obedience completely.
Prophet (SAW) said “When Allah wishes good for someone, He bestows upon him the understanding of the Deen.” [Bukhari]
