Death as mentioned in the Qur’an

Death is the only reality that we are sure of. However people avoid discussing this topic. Following are a few ayaats from the Holy Qur’an as a reminder to me and you.

The Test

Who has created death and life, that He may test you which of you is best in deed. And He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving; (Al-Mulk 67:2)

The Approach of Death

And the stupor of death will come in truth: “This is what you have been avoiding!” (Qaf 50:19)
Then why do you not (intervene) when (the soul of a dying person) reaches the throat? (Al-Waqi’ah 56:83)

And you at the moment are looking on, (Al-Waqi’ah 56:84)

But We (i.e. Our angels who take the soul) are nearer to him than you, but you see not, [Tafsir At-Tabarî, Vol.27, Page 209] (Al-Waqi’ah 56:85)

Then why do you not, if you are exempt from the reckoning and recompense (punishment, etc.) (Al-Waqi’ah 56:86)

Bring back the soul (to its body), if you are truthful? (Al-Waqi’ah 56:87)

The Decided Judgement

And no person can ever die except by Allâh’s Leave and at an appointed term. And whoever desires a reward in (this) world, We shall give him of it; and whoever desires a reward in the Hereafter, We shall give him thereof. And We shall reward the grateful. (Aali Imran 3:145)

Then after the distress, He sent down security for you. Slumber overtook a party of you, while another party was thinking about themselves (as how to save their ownselves, ignoring the others and the Prophet SAW) and thought wrongly of Allâh – the thought of ignorance. They said, “Have we any part in the affair?” Say you (O Muhammad SAW): “Indeed the affair belongs wholly to Allâh.” They hide within themselves what they dare not reveal to you, saying: “If we had anything to do with the affair, none of us would have been killed here.” Say: “Even if you had remained in your homes, those for whom death was decreed would certainly have gone forth to the place of their death,” but that Allâh might test what is in your breasts; and to Mahis that which was in your hearts (sins), and Allâh is All Knower of what is in (your) breasts. (Aali Imran 3:154)

“Wheresoever you may be, death will overtake you even if you are in fortresses built up strong and high!” And if some good reaches them, they say, “This is from Allâh,” but if some evil befalls them, they say, “This is from you (O Muhammad SAW).” Say: “All things are from Allâh,” so what is wrong with these people that they fail to understand any word? (An-Nisa 4:78)
And We granted not to any human being immortality before you (O Muhammad SAW), then if you die, would they live forever? (Al-Anbiya 21:34)

After that, surely, you will die. (Al-Mu’minun 23:15)

Everyone shall taste the death. Then unto Us you shall be returned. (Al-’Ankabut 29:57)

There is an appointed time for everyone

And every nation has its appointed term; when their term is reached, neither can they delay it nor can they advance it an hour (or a moment). (Al-A’raf 7:34)

We can not avoid death. Lets spend our time in this life as a preparation for the Everlasting  Life to come , in the Akhirah.
